I fixed it.
I loaded up the live cd, copied the 05_debian_theme file, backed up the old one, chmod'd the copied one, made changes, and it worked.

I changed the pic for the theme in 05_debian_theme but when I got to update-grub I get this:
Generating grub.cfg ...
/etc/grub.d/05_debian_theme: line 43: syntax error near unexpected token `fi'
...
I managed to fix it by manually setting my time zone to Iceland,
even tough I live in Texas????
Thanks, I finally figured that out, see original post.
Mostly the reason for edit;)
according to this
http://www.dedoimedo.com/computers/grub-2.html
I issue this command
sudo chmod -x 20_memtest86+
when I do that I get this error
chmod: cannot access `20_memtest86+': No such...
Yes, it is also set to use servers and the server is also in my time zone
I changed it from yes to no rebooted still the same 6 hours behind
I read the thread and that is my problem, but the thread that is pointed to in that thread, doesn't mention anything about how to change UTC,
Thanks, and I will search how to set UTC to not.
I am running 9.10
Like the title says, I have tried setting it manually but that just messes up the sys clock. So I set it back to use servers.
When I boot to windows 7 the time is right.
I have...
This worked for me...

I am trying to install Vista into VBox from recovery disks.
The disks require I have two partitions. It installs vista in the second partition.
Can I do that in virtualbox?
If so how?
What is the -G(to the group)?? I guess I need to reread the thread.
Too I reinstalled VB from a DEB so now I have the user group.
Maybe the -G is the thing left to do.
The good new is I gots USB...
Autohide wasn't ticked, I tried every button in the panel.
I guess I have restarted enough times I was able to put it back on top.
Thanks
Wow, now it's gone, every time I put the panel to left or right, when I went back to top it would migrate towards the bottom of the screen.
Then, when I select top, it resets itself to bottom but I...
I was going to move it from the top to the right and it went vertical in the middle of the screen, so then I decided to put it back at the top, and now it is a third of the way down the screen....
I've added myself to lp, registered VirtualBox restarted a few times, and I don't have a group called vboxusers??
Anyway, I am running the same versions of Ubuntu and VB as others on this thread....
Whenever I set visual effects it changes my compiz settings like turning off cube, if I recheck cube it turns off visual effects??
I know before I had both cube and AWN...strange
the computer...
visual effects are set to extra still no go with AWN.
Man the first time I set it up no problem, after reinstalling Ubuntu it wont't start.
AWN manager works great, I can select applets, icon...
compiz is up and working fine...how do I enable visual effects?
never mind, I didn't think compiz would work without visual effects, but it does.
thanks
I recently re-installed 9.10 and now I can't get AWN to work.
I have tried installing thru spm and Ubuntu software center, I can start the manager, add applets,... but nothing shows up at the bottom...
Another problem I am having is my cdrom is only working when it wants to. I am going to have to save this for another day.
Thanks
OK this is strange my computer will not boot from the cd anymore the vista recovery or the livecd, I've checked the bios a few times.
This is very confusing.
For some reason the grub2 starts with the recovery cd in without asking me to boot cd
I do have the cd in the bios set to boot first??
Either me or this laptop is getting a little wonky.
I still...
the live cd gave me the bootmgr message and that kind of freaked my out.
anyway, I am reinstalling 9.1 as we speak.
I do have the iso for the vista recovery I just failed to run the other commands,...
