Just in case someone finds this thread via Google or something, the card I linked to above worked out of the box. In fact, it worked better on Ubuntu in my tests than it did in Windows. That said, I...
I spent a day working on it, every "how to" and blog post just said to give up. I need a more powerful one anyway. I'm just going to start buying cards and seeing what works. I don't want a PC I have...
I found this one on Amazon:
http://www.amazon.com/TP-LINK-TL-WN951N-Wireless-Advanced-Adapter/dp/B0034CL2ZI/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top
But I'm not sure how well it will work with the latest...
I'm building a new desktop and it will be too far away from the router to plug into the internet. I was wondering what wireless cards you guys might recommend. I'm not looking for the cheapest or the...
After our last meet up Saturday (the install fest) we announced some changes to the Ubuntu Stop Meetup group.
1. We will be doing 2 meetups every month - one tech heavy the other art program...
Those icons look awesome! There are a few that are a little pixelated (if you want some constructive criticism) but over all, I think they look great! Don't feel bad if no one comments. That just...
The font is too thick. The colors are inline and everything else looks good.
After reading this tread, I've thought a lot more about Blender making simple web animations. If you are familiar with After Effects, you know that you can import 2D objects to create the illusion of...
I learned GIMP forst, so swapping to PhotoShop was a pain. It has been three years and I still try to do things in PhotoShop the GIMP way. IMHO, GIMP is much better for creating art non-vector art....
Cool, I'll have to check it out. Right now, the only thing keeping me tied to Illustrator is the eraser tool. If Picasa has one and can make complex designs, I'll gladly make the swap :)
Very minimalistic.
I just realized this may not be the best place for this, as I am not having issues yet. If there is a better place for this post, could an admin move it there? Thanks.
it's what he asked for.
Sorry to say, there is nothing yet as good as After Effects. Cinelerra will be your best bet. Depending on what you are doing, you may also want to take a look at Blender for some things. Check out...
GIMP is great for final touches, but vector is awesome due to its scaling abilities. I haven't tried Picasa yet. Good luck.
Guess I answered the question unknowingly :)
When using After Effects, they recommend I have a graphics card dedicated to the program. And the watts are to power the card(s). I read that the recommended wattage was 175, so 10 more because I...
Try FreeCAD:
http://sourceforge.net/projects/free-cad/
It's in Beta, but so's lots of stuff :)
Also, found this:
http://www.openscad.org/
I switched the other way - GIMP and InkScape first. I still try to do things in Illustrator and PhotoShop like I'm using GIMP and InkScape. It's been 3 years. Once InkScape gets out of beta, I'll try...
When Ubuntu first came out, it was called "Porn Linux" cuz Mark wanted artsy naked people on the it, so I can't see why it would be an issue now. That was brilliant marketing.
What program did you use? The logo in the middle could use some Vector love. Try re-making it in InkScape. It looks a little rough. Love the idea of them though - even the "heavy metal" ones :)
I don't get the Lubuntu, but the rest look great. The Xubuntu is my fav.
A modern graphics card should be fine. You don't need a $300 card, but you can't use it on one fits the bare requirements for installing Ubuntu either.
8 years last month, 5 kids.

If you can't find someone local to talk to, start hanging out at local computer stores and keep trying to get a job at one. It will be horrible, but the experience will help in the future. As for the...
