Thank you guys, that was my exact problem. Why does a remote desktop service has to utilize so much the CPU is beyond my grasp.
It would constantly utilize more than 30% from all 4 cores.

In order to make most of the buttons on my G7 work (except resolution buttons) on Kubuntu 7.10 I had to edit the mouse entry on /etc/X11/xorg.conf with this:
Section "InputDevice"

Searching the net I encountered this guide.
Using the tool near the botom of the page (g5hack), it should be able to remap the resolution (+,-) buttons too.
Unfortunately...
Following the tutorials I finally managed to get Kubuntu to recognize nearly all the keys on my G7 mouse. Though, despite all the reading I've never read about how to enable the resolution buttons.
