You should be able to insert into then end of the file /etc/rc.local before the line with ext 0 just as I did with the hda-verb program
Just for your information, the sound on a ACER Aspire 8920 needs a small program called hda-verb that sends a command to the sound driver. I dont think it actually did need the new 1.0.17 driver, but...
