    Thats ok

You will have to wait a week. (thats how long it took me )

If its possible, could you attach the driver from Realtek in a post?

    Thanks,
    Tom

I can confirm that no encryption and pass phrase works with network manager.

For me, I have WEP encryption. For some reason, it doesn't work properly.

    Hi y'all.
When I saw that thread name i thought my problems with wireless driver's gone, but unfortunately it's wrong... Following that tutorial you made, I did the same you did, and we've got the same wireless card(rtl8187, id 8197).
Every things was going well till the part "net8187b
Hardware Present: Yes" after that in Network Manager, i supposed to see wireless access points, but there's only "Wired Connection" and "Point to Point Connection" no Wireless access point.Once back I installed the rtl8187-jadamns-modified-driver and after all i could see the available networks list, but i couldn't make the internet work at all, only the list shows up...
Any idea what's goin' on ?
Ps.: Gezzes...That the only one driver left to ubuntu works fine...

    Thanks in advance

It shouldn't affect anything but to be on the save side, yes.

Also, make sure your wireless switch is ON (thats if you have one) while installing the driver

    Right,
Do you have ndiswrapper installed. And ndisgtk (GUI of Ndiswrapper)

Then get the driver on my second post. Extract it, keep it in the folder!
Go to, System > Admin > Windows Wireless Drivers

Install Driver, locate the .inf file. (the .sys file must be in there as well!)

Then, it should, like mine, say 'Hardware Present = Yes' If yes. The driver is installed, properly!

    Then do. in terminal,
    Code:
    sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
    sudo ifconfig wlan up
    Then after, do this.

    Code:
    wlist scan
    then post the outcomes!

Re: HOWTO: Get RTL8187B (ID: 8197) Working. Step by Step

I have the same wifi card as well. I followed the tutorial, and I was able to see "net8187b Hardware Present: Yes" from Windows Wireless Drivers. However, when I try to "ifconfig wlan0 up" or anything else wlan0, it says that wlan0 cannot be found. Indeed, Network Manager does not see a wireless card either.

I can get internet using the included rtl8187 drivers. However, it is very unstable. It will always show 4 or 5 bars in network manager, but the internet tends to stop working after 2 or 3 minutes, and I have to rmmod/modprobe rtl8187 to get it back for another 2 to 3 minutes. I've seen many posts about this problem on this forum, but none have a solution beyond installing ndiswrapper, hence why I followed this tutorial.

I added rtl8187 to blacklist before I followed this tutorial. As I mentioned, even though it says the hardware is present, I can't do anything with wlan0, since it doesn't think its there. I "modprobe ndiswrapper", no change. I "modprobe rtl8187", and immediately wlan0 appears and it connects (though its unstable). I "rmmod rtl8187" and wlan0 disappears again.

I've tried restarting many times. I always have no internet at all upon boot, and I can never see wlan0 until I resort to using the default unstable drivers.

Can anyone figure out why the hardware is detected but wlan0 won't appear when using ndiswrapper?

    Weird :\
I'm using the wireless card now and its fine.

ok, now in terminal type, iwconfig

post the output. With the ndiswrapper drivers installed etc.
