[SOLVED] Intel 2200BG Wireless problems

I have a dell inspiron 9300 laptop with the intel 2200bg wireless hardware device. The problem is that iwconfig doesn't see my wireless hardware:

$ sudo iwconfig

I'm using hardy heron. I've followed the basic guidlines from here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Wi...er/Ndiswrapper

Each time, I've used the 2200BG driver from the dell support page or from the ndiswrapper sourceforge drivers. Every time I followed these guidelines I've had to add an extra step:

sudo ndiswrapper -a 8086:4220 net4x32

I'm figuring that this is associated with the fact that iwconfig doesn't see my wireless card.

Nonetheless, the little green light on my wifi icon on my laptop doesn't light up in ubuntu, but does in windows XP. I've tried Fn+F2, but that doesn't work either. ANY HELP IS APPRECIATED

That's the whole answer. Is there a switch or key combination on your laptop that enable and disables wireless? It's evidently in the 'Off' position. I am quite certain that once you find it and switch it, wireless will work well.

As I understand about the Dell inspiron 9300 laptops, the BIOS controls the 'on/off switch' of the wireless device. I have the laptop running XP and hardy heron. In XP, the wireless device automatically turn on and the icon indicated on the laptop itself is lit. In Hardy, the icon indicated on the laptop for the wireless device isn't lit.

To enable/disable the device the I only need to hit Fn+F2. This works to enable/disable the wireless device in XP. This doesn't work in Hardy. I am not exactly sure how to turn this device 'on'.

As i posted before, Hardy sees the device. But my guess is that it doesn't know how to turn it on.

Please try these two commands and let us know if your wireless comes to life:

sudo rmmod -f ipw2200
sudo modprobe ipw2200 disable=0 led=1

Now does the 'wireless=radio off' disappear? The next thing to try is:

sudo su
echo 0 > /sys/bus/pci/drivers/ipw2200/*/rf_kill

If one of these works, we can easily make it permanent.

It came to life!!! So how do I make this permanent?

(I was on vacation for a few days, I didn't have time to tackle this problem sooner )

I am having that same problem and this is the output when i try that command. I have a Nx8220 laptop with the intel 2200 wireless

Seems you are using ndiswrapper rather than ipw2200. So you are trying to remove a module that is not loaded yet.
